Mildred Gay Duffield, 83, of Spencer, WV died Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
She was born August 22, 1932 in Branchland, Lincoln County, WV, daughter of the late S.P. and Ethel Davidson.
She was a majorette and graduated from Guyan Valley High School. She then attended Marshall (then Marshall College) where she met her husband to be, the late Jack Charles Duffield of Sutton, WV. “Middie Gay” as she was called, was a Baptist by Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer, WV. She was a mother and homemaker, although she worked at times at the Spencer Grade School and the Roane General Hospital, but also helped in her husband’s greenhouse manufacturing business.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Jack C. Duffield, and seven brothers and sisters: Ernest, Don and Paul Davidson and sisters Freda Metzer, Myrtle Davis, Patricia Kolb and Francis Davidson, with her sister, Lillian Pinkerton surviving her.
She loved going to the trade shows with her husband and meeting the convention customers of the greenhouse business. She lived the last 6 years in Huntington, WV with and near her family.
Surviving also are her sons, L. David Duffield, a lawyer in Huntington, WV and Joe P. Duffield, a Home Health nurse, also in Huntington; along with four grandsons, Tyler, Nick, Matt and Aaron Duffield; and her beloved great granddaughter, Layla, all of the Huntington area.
Friends will be received 11 a.m. where the funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the McGhee Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin WV. The service will be conducted by her nephew, Pastor Pete Davidson.
Interment will be at the Dial Cemetery, Lincoln County, WV.
