Mildred Winona Harper

April 14, 1918 — November 16, 2014

Mildred Harper went home to be with her Lord on November 16, 2014 after an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Laura and Sam Workman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thirsel Boyd Harper; three brothers, Medsil, Edward and Gene; and son-in-law, Bob Long all of Bandytown.

She was a lifetime member of Martha Freewill Baptist Church of Bandytown which she served as treasurer, deacon’s wife and held many offices. She sold Sarah Coventry jewelry, worked for the Community Action Program, was an Avon representative and a census taker. She was also president of Boone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years. She was an amazing mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend to many. She was an amazing woman of God and loved her church and family. Her favorite Bible verse was Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dawn Rita Long Woods (Harold) of Bandytown; son, Terry Delane Harper (Jerrie) of Hurricane; brother, Curtis Workman (Coleen) of Madison; grandchildren, Mark Long (Ella), Tammy Searls (Sammy) of Cedar Grove, Todd Long (Marlene) of Low Gap, Jamie Long (Tricia) of Fort Irwin, California, Jason Long (Terri) of Ford Hood, Texas, Diana Bragg (Scott) of Waynesville, NC, Pam Acevedo (Jose) of Hurricane, WV, David Harper (Andrea) of Concord, NC; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

The family was proud of the life she led and standards she set for all of us to follow. Thanks to Boone Memorial Hospital and staff and Hospice for their loving care.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Martha Freewill Baptist Church , Bandytown with the Rev. John Frame and the Rev. Chip Frame officiating. Burial will follow in Mid-Ferrell Cemetery, Bandytown.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Handley Funeral Home in Danville.
