Nancy Fran Black Barker 1945-2018
After over eight years of fighting breast cancer, God came down and put his arms around Nancy and took her home. Nancy was a founding member of Bible Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Preceding Nancy in death was her mom, Pauline Black; Beloved friends- Patricia Harper, Judy Hall, Denise Brewer, Jenny Harless; and special niece, Carolyn Green.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her husband, Ronald, which was her sweetheart in school for six years and husband for 53 years and 8 months; children, Greg (Paula) Barker of Logan, Rhonda (Rich) Dangott of Turtle Creek, Ryan (Tina) Barker of Pecksmill; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Barker of Alabama, Airman First Class Dillan Barker of Texas, Sydney Dangott of Turtle Creek, Collin Barker of Danville, Bradon Barker of Logan, greatgrandson Luke of Alabama; father, Fred Sr. (Judy) Black of Danville; siblings, Patty (Larry) Lafferty of Madison, Fred Jr. (Mary) Black of Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews who loved her very much; special friends outside of the family, Barbara Parker, Phyllis Miller, Gina Barker, Pam Mullet, Sybil McCoy, Josie Roush, Teresa Newsome, and all of the Harper family.
Special thanks to Dr. Steven Jubelirer and Dr. John Kelly for their kindness and great care of Nancy. Also many thanks are given to Kelly and all of the other great nurses at the CAMC Cancer Center who each loved Nancy and held a special place in her heart.
Nancy was a loving person with a heart of gold. When talking about her family, especially her grandchildren, there was a glimmer in her eyes and a smile on her face. While she was able, she worked hard all of her life to support her family, starting at the family business and ending at Shaffer and Shaffer.
Nancy was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to us all. There will always be a void in our lives and Nancy will be missed dearly.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastor Dan Gates and the Reverend Johnny Barker officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 19 at the funeral home.
