Nathanael Allen Merritte returned home to the Lord on October 27, 2024. Born on January 21, 1996, to Woody Allen Merritte and Sinda Rebecca Merritte, Nathanael “Nate” faced life with a grit that left those who knew him in awe. Despite a few brushes with the law and some hard-earned battle scars, he found purpose in his recent work as a substitute janitor for the Lincoln County School System—a job he took pride in every day.Nate is preceded in death by his father, Woody, and his grandparents, Jim and Leona “Oney” Porter. He is survived by his mother, Sinda, his younger brothers, Zachary Merritte and Michael Sias, and his grandparents, Woodrow and Linda Merritte. Nate was also deeply loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss his laughter, mischief, and tall tales.Never one for formal events, Nate wanted his loved ones to remember him in the places he cherished most. His final wish was to be cremated and laid to rest beside his father, where he can forever be close to the mountains he loved. In lieu of flowers, Nate’s family invites friends and loved ones to raise a glass, share a story, and celebrate with him in spirit—one last time.
