Oliver Leon Hunter

January 30, 1936 — November 15, 2022

Oliver Leon Hunter of Danville WV went home to be with the Lord on November 15, 2022 after a short illness. He was born January 30, 1936 to the late James and Audra Hunter.
He was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Madison VFW where he served as Chaplin for many years.
He was a dedicated member of Hilltop Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Phyllis Meadows; brother, Dennis Hunter; and his loving wife of 53 years Betty White Hunter.
He is survived by his brother, Robert (B.J.) Hunter of South Carolina; his son, Michael (Sheryl) Hunter Sr.; two daughters, Kristi Casto (Bryan) and Vicky (Rick) Bassham; nine grandchildren, Jack Dempsey, Jr, Jason Dempsey, Zack Bassham, Jennifer (Wes) Meeteer, Michael Hunter, Jr., Alex Bassham, Joshua Hunter, Kaleigh Casto and Shelby Casto; six great grandchildren, Connor, Kendall and Collin Dempsey, Nora, Wesley and Vivienne Meeteer.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2022 Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Jeff Mosteller officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville, WV with military graveside rites by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison WV.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the funeral home.
