Opal Marie (Smith) Workman 79 of Gallagher, WV formerly of Twilight, WV passed away March 14, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House with her family by her side.
Opal was a homemaker and loved to shop, cook, quilt, fish, spend time with her family and friends, and garden flowers and green beans. She was a former member of the Twilight Church of Christ in Twilight and attended the Nazarene Church of Gallagher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lettie (Cook) Smith, her husband St.Paul Workman, granddaughter Michele Burns, sisters,Vernie Ferguson and Emma Bailey, brothers; Calvin, Elmer and Joe Smith, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters; Gail Workman of Sumerco, Paula Burns of Gallagher and one son; Earl and (Cathy) Workman of Napier, sisters; Selma and (Eugene) Webb of Scary Creek, and Juanita Thomas of Alabama, brothers; James and (Liz) Smith of Webster Springs and Clyde Smith of Michigan, grandsons; Eddie and (Linda) Burns, Lee Burns, Doug and (Debra) Burns, Jamie and (Melissa) Workman, great grandsons; Darious, Brandon, Austin, Aaron, Derek, Dylan, Logan Burns, Tyler Workman and Nate Baire, great granddaughters; Tiffani Workman, Carrie Burns, and Jill Baire, great great grandsons Caleb, Eli and Dominic Burns. Other survivors include special friend and caregiver, Joe Adkins of Gallagher and son-in-law Eddie Burns of Spar’s Creek, sisters-in-law, Arbutus Workman and Esta Jarrell of Danville, Augusta White of Bim and Shelby Shelton of Chesapeake. She also leaves to mourn her passing an abundance of nieces, nephews and friends and one special friend, Ann Adkins of Gallagher.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Tim Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Mid- Ferrell Cemetery, Bandytown WV with pallbearers Joe Adkins, Eddie Burns II, Brandon Burns, Jamie Workman, Freddy Workman and Doug Burns.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
