Pelmer Wheatley 76 of Danville WV peacefully made his journey home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 13, 1937 in the Fawn Hollow at Big Ugly. He was the son of the late Erble and Clarcy (Adkins) Wheatley of Greenview. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; Thurman Lee and Herman, sisters; Charlotte and Sibby, son; Stephen and grandsons; Craig Mounts and David Wheatley.
He was a graduate of Beckley Heavy Equipment School and became owner and operator of Wheatley Timber and Logging. He was a member of UMWA, and retired mobile equipment operator for Bethlehem Steele Coal Company.
He was a faithful member and song leader of the Church of Christ for 50 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Poneta (Haun) Wheatley, sons; Pelmer Jr. of Hamlin, Bobby of Gatlinburg, TN, Dennis and Garry of Charleston, Eddie (Rosa) of Greenview, and Mark (Shannon) of Rock Creek, daughters; Rhonda of Danville and Deborah (Scott) Corley of Madison, grandchildren; Scottie of Hewett, Nicholas Fleming of Danville, Austin and Tyler Wheatley of Rock Creek, Chrissy Foster of Greenview, and Tyson and Keaton Corley of Madison, great grandchildren; Makaya, Emma and Lyla of Hewett, Lawson and Aubury of Greenview, sisters; Beulah (Billy) Adkins of Chapmanville, and Jewell (Franklin) Hager of Ohio, a niece, Lynn (Bill) Dent of North Carolina, also a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Mark Wheatley officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
