Raymond Roy

Raymond “Papaw” Roy, 86, of Branchland, WV, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on June 14, 2024, in the presence of his dear loved ones. He was born January 6, 1938, on Roy Branch in Branchland, WV. He was the son of the late Edward “Bobie” and Gladys Thacker Roy. In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by the love of his life, Myra, his five brothers, Denver, Dencil, Charles, Willis, and Willie, one sister, Lillie Watts, two daughters Carol Sue Smith and Margaret Brown, one son Freddie McClellan, and two grandsons, Henry and Matthew Smith.

Raymond was a retired steel mill worker with Republic Steel of Ohio, was an avid fisherman and loved tending his gardens. He was a kind-hearted and generous man, sharing the fruits of his labors with those who needed them most. Raymond and his beloved Myra lived a blessed life with her children, whom he loved, cherished, and raised as his own.

Raymond is survived by his sister, Hazel Plumley, and his brother, Donald (Charlotte) Roy, all of Branchland, WV. In addition to his siblings, Raymond is survived by his grandchildren, Sherry(Mike) Castle of Inez, KY, Teresa (Buddy) Miller of West Hamlin, WV, Angela McClellan and Stacy (Billy) Adkins, all of Hamlin, WV, Kimberley Pinkerman, Tina (Marcus) Glass, and Charlene Hall, all of North Carolina, Benjamin Hall of Huntington, WV, and a host of great grandkids, great-great grandkids, nieces, nephews, loved ones, family and friends left to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home West Hamlin, WV, with Greg Dial and Tim Chapman officiating. The burial will follow in the Roy Family Cemetery, Branchland, WV. A visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
