R.B. Davidson, 87, of Branchland, WV passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2018, with family members by his side. He was born September 17, 1930, to John M. and Emma Vanhoose Davidson.
Following graduation from Wayne High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was Honorably discharged more than three years later. After working in the aviation industry in Columbus, OH, for a few years, he returned to West Virginia, where he and his brother, Joe, established Branchland Lumber Company in 1957. R.B. continued working as the owner/operator of the family run lumber company until age 81.
He was preceded in death by his wife Edna Watson Davidson; parents, John M. and Emma Vanhoose Davidson; brothers Herbert, Johnny, Roscoe and Joe Davidson; sisters, True Davidson, Dalla Sanders, and Sara Kay Pearson; and grandson, Brian Hoffman.
He is survived by his children, Dorothy (Richard) Hoffman, Houston, TX; Danita (Phillip) Miller, Catlettsburg, Ky; Austin Jay Davidson (Kim Beaty) Branchland,WV; Kay (Greg) Carroll; Nanette Jackson, Miami, Fl; and Ersel “Jr” Elkins, West Hamlin, WV. He is also survived by grandchildren, Karen Morris, Susan Blanchard and Michael Hoffman, all of Houston TX; Joshua , Ryan Davidson and Bridget Beaty, all of Branchland, WV; Lacy Davidson, Huntington, WV; and Matthew Miller, St. Cloud, Fl; and six great- grandchildren.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a bluegrass music enthusiast who played harmonica, banjo, and guitar with his bluegrass friends. He was a life member of American Legion Post 111, Hamlin, WV and an active member of the Lions Club. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Veteran’s Administration Medical Center and Hospice of Huntington nurses for their respectful and caring treatment of our father. We also want to express our gratitude and thanks to a special caretaker, Rochelle Steele, and Amedisys nurse, Royal Brown.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, WV with Lonnie Wilson and Greg Dial officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Cemetery, Nestlow, WV. A visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
