Robert Ray Workman, 75, of Wharton, WV went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2024 at Raleigh General Hospital.
He was born on February 12, 1949 in Wharton, son of the late George and Georgia Workman. He was also preceded in death by brothers Charles Workman and Gary Workman; and sisters Mary Ann Singleton and Deborah Kay Workman.
Robert worked as a coal miner with Eastern Associated Coal Corporation and was a member of the UMWA Local 781. He was a member of the Greenwood Church of God faithfully for seven years. Robert was a devoted father and grandfather. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and all outdoor activities with his sons. He was an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his best friend and soul mate of 47 years, Shelia Crouse Workman, whom he loved dearly and married on July 23, 1977 in Wharton; his sons, David Workman and Robert (Ursula) Workman of Patriot, OH, and George (Carolyn) Workman of Wharton; grandchildren, Destiny, Susanna, Chad, Jacob, Bristol, and Chloe; great-grandchildren, Emery, Bailey, Riley, and Raylan; sisters, Clara Jean Adkins (Jimmy), Teresa (Robert) Wright of Lexington, NC; brother-in-law, Phillip (Teresa) Crouse of Wharton; and several nieces and nephew who were very special to him.
Service will be Thursday, February 22 at Green Wood Church of God with Debbie Price and Kenneth Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road, Madison, WV. Pallbearers will be Kenny Hartwell, Chuck Workman, Greg Singleton, Gary Myers, David Workman, Bobby Workman, and Mark Loud.
Visitation will be from noon on Thursday until service time at the church.
