Ronald L. Adkins, 88, of Wharton, WV passed away September 3, 2020 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born September 13, 1931 to the late Everette and Stella Adkins. He was preceded in death by a brother Cecil; two sisters, Marcella Gartin and Lucille Littleton; and a grandson Matthew Kuhn.
He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Company as maintenance foreman with over 20 years of service and was a member of the UMWA. He worked over seven years in the uranium industry in New Mexico. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 and made Sergeant 1st Class. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a 1951 graduate of Sharples High School.
He gave his life to the Lord in 2012 and he loved to listen to gospel music. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing pool, gardening, and riding motorcycles. While in New Mexico he loved playing fast pitch softball and pitched for the Laguna Acoma Indians. In 2013, he co-authored short stories in a book titled Almost Heaven, Tales from the good Old Days in Western, West Virginia.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy; his sons, Ronald Craig (Sandy) of Wharton, WV and Ronnie Joe of Tennessee; daughter, Rhonda Adkins of Foster, WV; granddaughters, Holly of Wharton, WV and Heather of Cocoa, Fla.; and three great-grandsons.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 at Memory Gardens, Low Gap with pastor Scottie Elswick officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison, WV.
