Roy Lee McCormick, 80, of Peytona, WV passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 28, 1932 in Peytona and was a son of the late Babe and Nettie Faye Stone McCormick. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen, Johnnie, Eugene, Kenneth and Charles; sisters, Ellen, Alice and Virginia; and his beloved Billie M. Peters.
Billie and her children always thought of Roy as a part of their family. Her children, George M. Peters (Betty Rice), Teresa Harrington (Jim) and Sophia Peters loved and cherished him so. They helped him through his long battle with cancer till his last days along with his sister, Mary Bearden.
He is survived by two sisters, Marie Nidy of Titusville, Fla. and Mary Bearden of Rock Hill, SC; 21 nephews; and 13 nieces who loved him very much.
He retired from Peabody Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He was an Army veteran from 1952 to 1955.
Roy always had a smile on his face. He loved to meet people, spend time with family and friends, having breakfast and coffee at the Pioneer Drive Inn each morning and he loved to eat good food. His most recent happiest day was his 80th Surprise Birthday given by Billie’s children which turned into a family reunion. To add to his surprise Dr. William Harris and some of his staff attended. He was one of the sweetest humans on earth and will be dearly missed.
We would like to thank William L. Harris M.D. and staff; Ahmad Khalid M.D. and David Lee Cancer Center; Dr. Vaughn Lamb M.D. and Renal Center; James P. Tierney D.
