Ruby Marilyn Asbury, 94, of Danville, Boone County, WV peacefully passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born March 2, 1923 to the late James and Vinnie Sexton. She grew up in Coal Valley and married Arlie J. Asbury on February 7, 1942 who preceded her in death in 2010. They moved to six Mile in 1955 where they made their home.
She was also preceded in death by her oldest son Arlie P. Asbury who passed in 2011; three brothers, Woodrow Sexton, James Sexton and Curtis Sexton; and three sisters, Mary Virginia Zornes, Betty King and Patty Gilliam.
After raising her children she worked as a cook at Ramage Elementary. After retirement she enjoyed a simple life of spending time with her family, gardening, and cooking. She loved keeping beautiful baskets of flowers on her porch for all to enjoy. She especially loved tending to her bountiful marigolds and her little rose bushes. She took great pride in her flowers and vegetable gardens and shared with friends and family. Her family has fond memories of stringing beans with her on her front porch and enjoying biscuits and gravy every Saturday morning. She was a member of Six Mile United Methodist Church and spoke often of her love for her church family. She made everyone feel welcome in her home and made sure no one ever left hungry. People who came in contact with her will never forget the way she made them feel. She was a kind, loving, God fearing woman who touched the hearts of anyone she met.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their wives, Curtis and Vonda, and Jimbo and Becky; two daughters, Connie Dean and Debbie Waters all of Six Mile; seven grandchildren, Cindy Ball (David), Amy Bender (Doug), Curtis Asbury II (Brooke), Arlie P. Asbury II (Brenda), Adam Ferrell, Cassie Asbury and Rachel Waters; and 14 great-grandchildren, Nick and AbiGail Ball, Owen and Annie Bender, Carson, Jackson, Gunner and Parker Asbury, Madi, Sadie and Heidi Asbury, Gracie Ferrell, Asher Akers and Josie Walker; one brother, Donald Sexton of Charleston; and one sister, Peggy Adkins of Michigan.
