Ruth Ellen Sutphin

Ruth Ellen Sutphin, 79, of Uneeda, WV passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025.

Born on November 26, 1945, Ruth was the daughter of the late Cecil and Christalee "Betty" Berry of Uneeda, WV. She was happily married to Jerry Lee Sutphin for 61 years. They were an example to everyone about how marriage should be and were truly soulmates. Ruth and Jerry had one son, Jerry Brent Sutphin (of Oceana). He was Ruth's pride and joy. She also loved his wife, Patricia, like she was her own daughter. Ruth was a graduate of Scott High School. After school, she went on to help educate the students of Boone County. She was a kindergarten teacher's aide for 35 years. She loved children, truly believed they were our future, and wanted the best for them. Ruth enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her friends and family. She was also an excellent cook. She was giving and selfless. She made it a point to help raise her great-nieces, Shawna Walker and Amber Leftwich, who loved her like another mother. She was also a member of the Gospel Center Tabernacle. She was very much loved by everyone who knew her. 

Ruth has left behind many people who miss her greatly, but celebrate her life and cherish her memory. These people include her husband, Jerry Sutphin of Uneeda, WV; her son Brent (Pat) Sutphin of Oceana, WV; granddaughter Kiersten (Joe) Staats of Poca, WV; great-grandson Brexton Staats of Poca, WV; sister-in-law Marsha Berry of West Madison, WV, nieces Donrita Roberts of Danville, WV, Cindy Vickers of Tampa, FL; nephews Jimmy Berry II of West Madison, WV; Jeffrey "Scotty" (Lisa) Adkins of West Hamlin, WV, and Joshua Adkins of Danville, WV.

A graveside service for Ruth will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Family Memorial Gardens in Madison, WV with Rev. Walter Gore officiating.
