Samuel Maxwell Pickens

Samuel Maxwell Pickens III, 90, of Bim, WV went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2013.
He was born July 3, 1922 to the late Mabel Hastings Pickens and Samuel Maxwell Pickens II. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 65 years, Juel Jann Pickens. Sam was also preceded in death by his brother James Pickens of Anderson, Indiana; a half-sister, Cecilia Heal of Bellview, Ohio and his youngest grandson, Kedron Setser of Bim who died September 20, 2011.
Sam graduated from South Charleston High School and served his country for 3 years during WWII in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Asheville. He worked 29 years in the coal mines. Sam was saved as a young man and has been a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church for the past 30 years. He served on the Board of Deacons and was involved in the Men for Missions Ministry for many years. Also he faithfully attended the Thursday Night Visitation Program.
He is survived by two daughters, Maria (Danny) White of Palmares, Costa Rica and Madonna (David) Setser of Bim; two sisters, Jane Hopkins and Nellie Pilcher of Sanford, Florida; three brothers, Joe Pickens and Bill Pickens also of Sanford, Florida, and Tom (Barbara) Pickens of Knoxville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Daphne (Francisco) Chavarria of Woodstock, GA, they have three daughters, Amy, Samantha and her twin, Mindy; Jonathan (Tina) White of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have four daughtes, Rachel, Rose, Jules and Natalie; Amber (Arthuro) Vargas of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have three daughters, Melissa and her twin Rebecca, and Kattie and one son Joey; Samuel (Neena) White also of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have one daughter Emily and one son Samuel Ethan and Heather Jann Setser Fisher of St Albans, she has one daughter Taylor Mackenzie.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 3 at Bible Baptist Church, Danville, with Pastor John Barker officiating. Military graveside rites by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV will follow in Noah White Cemetery, Bim.
Friends may visit one hour prior at the church.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.
