Sandra J. Newell, 84, of Bumpass, Virginia unexpectedly passed away at her home on October 21, 2022. Born in Bergoo, WV on October 12, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Lowell (Buster) Elkins and Irene Ward Elkins. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Newell, her brother Jimmy Elkins, and sisters, Jean Farley, Carol Ball, Pat Higginbotham, and Sue Cook.
She is survived by her children, Bryant Newell (Susan), and Kimberly Newell (Bennie Horning) of Henrico, VA, two grandchildren, Christi Standley (Nathan) and Blake Newell (Manda), five great-grandchildren, Brady Standley, Reid Standley, Janie Standley, Porter Standley and Bryce Newell, her sisters Sherry Cabell (Mandy), Judy Lett (Jack), Karen Rothan (Dave), Cheryl Dembowski, Betty Forro (Don), one brother, Paul Elkins, her half-brothers, Alva Kolovich (Trish), Paul Kolovich, Albert Kolovich (April) of Logan, WV and a host of extended family members.
She was a retired Cafeteria Manager from Chapmanville Middle School. She enjoyed traveling, vacationing, and spending quality time with family and friends. Her favorite activities included gardening, reading books, keeping in touch with friends and family, watching the game show channel, and taking care of her cherished buddy, Crush (cat).
Sandra was truly a special lady. She can best be described as compassionate, generous, strong, humble, patient, forgiving, calm, loving, hard-working, fun, encouraging, nurturing and optimistic. She was a woman of great integrity. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her family and friends.
Service will be on Saturday, October 29th at 2 p.m. at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Rev. Mike Screeney officiating. Family viewing will be at 12:00 – 12:30. Visitation for family and friends is from 12:30 p.m. until service begins at 2 p.m.
Burial is immediately following at Boone Memorial Park in Madison, WV.
