Shelvie Jean Dunlap

Shelvie Jean Dunlap, 85, of Van, WV, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 25, 2022. She was a resident of the River Run Nursing Home in Coal Grove, OH during her final days. Shelvie was born to Roy Alvie Mullins and Maggie Lene (Perry) Mullins on October 11, 1936 in Raliegh County, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Linzel Dunlap, her infant daughters, Judy Ann Dunlap and Ivy Joe Dunlap, her grandson Timothy James Dunlap, and multiple siblings.

Shelvie is survived by her children Robert W. Dunlap of Van, WV, Timothy W. Dunlap of Van, WV, Diana L. Daniel of Ruckersville, VA, and Debra G. Dunlap of Van, WV; grandchildren, Tabitha, Amanda, Heather, Travis, and Sabrina; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Grace, Emma, and Harper; and her siblings, Gary and Carol.

Despite the tragedies in her life, or maybe because of them, Shelvie was a woman who loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. She was a grandmother to the community, who was happiest when she was helping others. Those who knew her best will be comforted by memories of her in every flower they smell, every act of kindness they experience, and every biscuit smothered in gravy (even though none will ever measure up to hers).

A celebration of life and graveside service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please honor her generosity of spirit and consider donating to the VFW or St. Jude’s.
