Sherry Diane Bender

Sherry Diane Jarrell Bender, 74, passed away April 18, 2025.

Sherry left this world to join our Lord in Heaven on this Good Friday. She was a faithful Christian who attended many years at Olive Branch Baptist Church.

She joined in Heaven her late husband, Kermit H. Bender, her parents, Oril Dewayne & Janice Sue Jarrell, her little brother Robert Dewayne Jarrell and her grandson Tyler Lee Bender

She leaves behind her children, Heather Rania Workman (Jon), Jamie Todd Cox (Patty), Kermit Lee Bender, Doug Wayne Bender (Sydney Manns) and Teresa Green

Sherry’s sister, Kathy Jane Jarrell of Madison will miss her protector and her best friend. And, Trooper, he will miss his “mamaw” bringing his treats.

Sherry leaves her 13 grand children behind, Miranda Hicks (John), Marisa Scott (Robert), Hunter Workman, Ashley Cox (Lyz), Jarett Cox (Marisa), Owen Bender, Annie Kate Bender, Lakely Bender, Todd Bender, Elie Bender, Addi Bender, Shawn Green & Courtney Green.

Sherry also had 4 great-grandchildren that she so adored so very much, Johnny Franklin Matics IV, Zoey Grace Hicks, Houston White Scott, and Bryan Todd Bender

Sherry leaves behind a host of many extended family, in-laws, cousins, and many friends

Sherry was a 1968 graduate of Van High School. She was a majorette and enjoyed her time there. After high school she attended beauty school, and never seemed to have stopped doing people’s hair. She was a cook for many years at the Boone County detention center. Her love language was food. She had an art for the best biscuits that no one can seem to replicate. Sherry enjoyed so much to bring dinners to anyone who wasn’t feeling well, had a birthday or a loss in the family. She would show up with something wonderful to share. Sherry will be missed by so many and many will miss those wonderful gestures of love she had shown over the years. Sherry also did flowers for many funerals and would keep people’s graves decorated for all occasions during the year. She was quite passionate about this as she had just finished doing God’s work at the cemetery when she suddenly left this world.

Thank you everyone who over the years that have been so kind and caring to our mother throughout the community. I know she would see somebody she knew everywhere she went. She will be missed by us all.

Services for Sherry will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Madison, WV. Pall Bearers are as follows: Jamie Cox, Doug Bender, John Workman, Hunter Workman, John Hicks, and Robert Scott.
