Shirley Darlene Jones, 78, of West Madison, West Virginia left this world on January 17, 2025 to be with God.
Born at Mt. Gay, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Martin L. Jones, and her mother and father, Mable Spradling and Thomas Gilpin.
Left to cherish her memory is her son David Martin Jones (Shirley) of Rochester, Washington and her daughter Teresa Lynn Boyd (Kenny) of Madison, WV; her granddaughter Jennifer Gandee (Noah) from St. Albans, WV; and great grandchildren, Jace, Jack, and Willow; Pauline Linville, and other friends too many to mention.
Darlene was a unique and strong woman who knew and was known throughout Boone County. She held several positions in the county government leaving her with a vast knowledge of her community. She loved anything Neil Diamond, was an avid reader, and had a quick sense of humor. She recalled her life and relished in telling her funny and sometimes bittersweet “stories” to all who visited. The family extends its thanks to her neighbors, her doctors, caregivers and friends. A special thank you to her daily visitor, Emaly, who delivered her meals, Phyllis Breeding, Jackson Nunnery and Pam McCarty for their help and friendship, Sammie Cook, Dana and John Holstein, Judy Hall, and Lisa Dooley, who were her close companions and caretakers.
Services for Shirley are to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that her memory be kept with donations to the Boone County Community Organization 304-369-0451, through Gary Williams the Director, or the Assistant Director, Tracy Starkey, who also showed great kindness to their mother.
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:26-27, 31 NIV
