In the presence of loving family, Shirley Ann Clendenin Kinder, 84, of Peytona, went to be with her Lord on May 4, 2019 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a brief stay.
Shirley was a Christian, a lifelong member of the Peytona Church of Christ, and lived in the Peytona/Drawdy area all her life as a wife, mother and homemaker.
Proverbs 31:10-15, 28, 29, & 30 (KJV) 10. Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. 11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, a portion to her maidens. 28. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
If ever to be known a virtuous woman, Shirley certainly fit that bill. Having suffered her own anguishes over the years, she was never known to be the cause of the same to others. When asked how she was doing each day, the answer was always the same, no matter how real or significant her own pain or worry; “I am doing just fine” (even when she wasn’t) she would tell you, then she would change the subject to you in a hurry.
Shirley was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles “Delmer” Kinder, her husband of 61 years; and her father and mother, Blaine and Lillian Vickers Clendenin.
She is survived by her daughters, Vickie (Charles) McDerment of Indianapolis, IN, Pam (Ernest) Taylor of Cabin Creek; Brenda (Ernie) Larzo of Ashford;and caregiver, Billie Jo (Archie) Hubbard of Peytona; sister, Brenda Wiley of Madison; brother, Richard Clendenin of Charleston; sister, Debbie Pauley of Peytona; brother, David Clendenin of Peytona; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;and a host of nieces and nephews.
Shirley’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at Peytona Church of Christ with Minister Donnie Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Drawdy Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time.
