Shirley Sutphin

January 31, 1941 — December 22, 2017

Shirley Sutphin of Van, WV received a call after a courageous battle with cancer Friday, December 22, 2017 surrounded by her family for an appointment from which she will not be returning.

She will be united with family and friends who preceded her in death, parents; Ova and Arnie Gunnoe, one brother; John L. Gunnoe and two sisters; Deloris and Loretta.

She was an active member of Van-Bigson FWB Church. She enjoyed singing and giving God the praises for His blessings. She loved her family and friends dearly. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through her struggles with cancer. Yet even throughout her own struggles, she reached out to help others any way she could. She enjoyed cooking and spent countless hours with her best friend, her sister-in-law Christine, cooking, laughing and sharing time which will always be treasured.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years; Tommy ”Buddy” sons; Ricky (Joyce) Gunnoe of Van, Bill (Delcie) Gould of Williams Mountain, David (Tracy) Booth of Gordon, daughters; Donna (Teddy) Roe of Gordon, Diana (Ronald) Deal of Barrett, and four stepdaughters; Shearlynn Varga of Madison, Pam (Eddie) Bias of Van, Penny (Ralph) Kinder of Ridgeview, and Louise Sharp of Virginia, one stepson; William Sutphin of Charleston, 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, brothers; Arnie and Eddie Gunnoe both of Twilight, Danny (Norma) Gunnoe of Glen Daniels, sisters; Ethel Gunnoe, Patty Gunnoe and June Gunnoe all of Gordon, Cindy Gunnoe of Glen Daniels and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Van-Bigson FWB Church. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, at the church with Pastor Jack Kinder, Rev. Johnny Adkins and Rev. Donald Adkins officiating. She will be laid to rest in Green Cemetery in Bandytown, WV.

The family would like to thank the staff at Boone Memorial Hospital, especially nurse Mary who treated Shirley with great kindness, Dignity Hospice for the care they gave and all who helped in anyway.
