Steven Matthew Gargon, owner of Mountaineer Building and Remodeling, died unexpectedly on November 1, 2014, at the age 44.
Steven was born on December 5, 1969, in Washington, DC, and was the firstborn of his parents. He graduated high school at Scott High School, Madison, WV in 1988, and immediately entered the United States Army, where he served as a Lance Missile Crew Member for 2 years in Germany. He later attended West Virginia State University, Concord College, and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, where he studied education, music, and eventually graduated with a vocation degree in Welding. Despite choosing a career in construction, he remained passionate about education and music, and was skillful on both the piano and trumpet.
Steven was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and white water rafting. He had a compassionate and generous spirit, and an ability to make anyone laugh. Steven had a deep conviction for living a life under the lordship and grace of Jesus Christ, and sought to bring this message to those in need, through his various work with programs such as Samaritan’s Inn and the Kairos Prison Ministry. He was a student of the Bible, who endeavored to be a living testament of the grace of God in his own life, to all those who met him. He will be forever remembered for the love that he had for his family and friends, as well as those in need. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing Steven, knows the loss that is felt by his departure. He will be deeply missed by all.
Steven is survived by his parents; Bill and Rose Gargon, his brother and sister in law; David and Karen Gargon, his children; Christopher, Elizabeth, Tiffany, and John Gargon, and his niece; Selah Gargon and nephews; Tyler Maloney and Joel Gargon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with David May officiating. Military committal service by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV will follow the funeral.
