Steven Douglas Wheatley 58 years old of Manila, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. He was born July 28, 1956 to Troy and Marie Wheatley in Welch.
Steve worked as a truck driver most of his life. He drove on and off road in the logging and coal industries and was known as one of the best drivers in the business.
Some of Steve’s hobbies included riding horses with his friends, farming, and riding ATV’s. He was known as a stern man, who had a heart of gold and cared for many. The door to his home was always open with a warm meal waiting.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife Kay. They had been together through thick and thin for over 36 years. He is survived by his father Troy of Manila, sister, Rhonda (Truman) Frye of Saltville, VA, children; Steven (Polly) Wheatley of Madison, Chad (Brianne) Barker of Madison, Willie (Jan) Wheatley of Harts, Waylon Wheatley of Chapmanville, Theresa (Randy) Carter of Salt Rock, WV, and Traci (Jimbo) Hannah of Big Creek, grandchildren; Jordan, Michael, Keaton, Miranda, Kendra, Abagail, Emily, Kierston, Wesley, Cambri, Kealey, Jesse, Kaylie, Nathaniel, Danielle, Christopher, Porsche and Meagan.
He was proceeded in death by his mother Marie Browning Wheatley and his daughter Belva Renee Workman.
Pallbearers will be Shawn and Jimmy Queen, Jordan and Michael Wheatley, Allan Stollings and Ronald Fowler.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Pastor Jim Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in Wheatley Family Cemetery, Hurricane Branch, Chapmanville.
