Susan Ballard Shreve

September 18, 1963 — October 10, 2015

Susan Ballard Shreve, 52, of Madison passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV after a lifetime urologic illness.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sebert and Edrie Ballard and Tom and Violet Hale; great-grandmother, Elva Elkins; and stepfather, Charles Lucas.

She was a graduate of Scott High School and WV Southern Community College with a Nursing Degree. In 1988 she was named United States National Collegiate Award Winner in Nursing. She worked at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in birth and delivery. She was a teacher’s assistant at Madison Baptist Church Preschool where Ms. Susan loved each and every one of her little munchkins. She was also a member of Madison Baptist Church where she taught Jr. Church and took care of the nursery.

Susan was passionate about animal rescue. She was a committed member of the B.A.R.C. Humane Society. In her lifetime she was directly responsible for saving the countless lives of furry friends.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Larra Shreve of Madison; her parents, Larry Ballard and Judy Eloise Lucas both of Madison; brother, Michael (Paula) Ballard of Madison; niece, Micah Ballard; nephew, Cole Ballard; many aunts and uncles; special cousin and best friend, Shelda Pritchard Botkins; and many other cousins whom she loved dearly.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 14 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Jim Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison where she will be layed to rest with her mama Edrie.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
