Sybilla M. Caudill, 88, of Madison, WV went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2017. She was born to the late W.O. and Mary Miller on April 16, 1928.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; sons, Myron and Lester; brothers, Heber, Nathan, and William Jr.; and sister, Aneita Overton. Sybilla was also preceded in death by sons-in-law David P. Hill and Bob Bryant; and grandson-in-law Phil Ratliff.
Left to cherish their many memories are her daughters, Martha Hill and Susie Bryant, and son, Anthony, all of Madison. She also leaves behind sisters, Dolores Price and Keren Cabell; sisters-in-law, Lola Miller and Jenna (Paul) Atkins; daughter-in-law, Beth (Bob) Sauvageot; grandchildren, Jenni Ratliff, Todd Rogers, Alisha (Jonathan) Dierdorff, and Andy Caudill. Mamaw and her keyboard will be missed by great-grandchildren, Haley and Dylan Ratliff and Carter and Emma Dierdorff. She will also be missed and remembered by a host of extended family members, neighbors, and friends.
Sybilla was a lifelong member of the Madison Baptist Church where she was the organist for 46 years and an active member of Baptist women’s groups at all levels. She assisted with youth groups and church choirs, and volunteered as a preschool teacher. She graduated from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) and taught music to hundreds of children in Boone County Schools before retiring in 1993.
Sybilla was a lifetime member of the PTA, an active member of Madison Rebekah Lodge, and Alpha Delta Kappa. She was honored by the Madison Rotary Club with their Paul Harris Fellow Award. When she wasn’t volunteering in her church activities, you could find her volunteering at schools, scouts, county fairs, the Coal Museum, and more. She also participated in community theatrical productions of “Oklahoma”, “The Music Man”, and “Hello Dolly”.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Madison Baptist Church with visitation two hours prior to the service. Officiating minister will be Rev. Jim Butcher and interment will be at Family Gardens, Madison.
The family would like to thank the staff at Boone Memorial Hospital for the years she lived at the hospital and her most recent caregiver, Darlene Deel.
