Thearn Matthew Keffer of Peytona, WV (Drawdy) was born September 18, 1926 to Nancy Harless Keffer and Tradie Keffer and died February 9, 2014. He was ill for a long time with COPD, UT and C-Diff. He was one of nine children.
Those who have gone on before: brothers, Clario (Gladyce), Elmer (Betty), Aubrey and Daniel Keffer; sisters, Lahoma Keffer, Lorrena (Ernest) Miller and Lorene (Jim) Miller.
He has one living brother, James (Emma) Keffer.
Thearn was married 65 years to Joyce Roberts Keffer, he said “she was the prettiest girl he ever saw”. They had three children: sons, Terry (Anna), Thearn, Jr. (Cheryl) and daughter, Ginger (Howard) Kellogg; six grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Rozanne, Joi Beth, Natalie and Magge; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Thearn had built all three of his children’s homes, for which he was so very proud.
At 16 he went to Virginia to work in the Shipyard sending back ½ of his money to his parents. At 17 he joined the Navy during WWII. He spent most of his time working in the coal mines as a UMWA member or as a boss. He had two service stations, one in Alkol and one in Nitro. In his spare time he and his brother James built houses. Thearn worked hard all his life.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Drawdy.
A thanks goes out to his care givers, Brenda Buzzard, Lucy Nugent, Sue Lester, Boone Memorial Hospital, Dr. Ron Stollings and Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville. How wonderful they have been to the whole family.
He will be missed by family and friends.
Service will be 11am Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with John Duty officiating. Burial will follow in Harless Cemetery, Drawdy with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
