Thomas “Tommy” Oral Thompson, Jr., 81, departed this life on June 16, 2021, at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Hubbard Hospice House for their love and compassionate care during his stay.
Tommy was born in Clothier, West Virginia to the late Thomas and Mae Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Beverly Ann Thompson, one daughter, Cindy Thompson, a grandson, James Dean Thompson, II, and his two brothers, Bob and Pete Thompson.
Tommy resided most of his life in the hills of West Virginia, where he played out his passion for hunting and fishing. An avid and passionate outdoorsman, Tommy spent as much time as he could camping, hunting, fishing in the many lakes and rivers of our many great states and enjoying time with his family. He was known best for his humorous personality, his infectious smile and laughter, and his candid spirit.
Tommy was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2261 in Chardon, Ohio.
Those left to cherish his memory include eight children: Melissa (Heath) Jackson, James Dean (Linda) Thompson, Steve (Jody) Thompson, Tommy Thompson and Dale Thompson, Frank (Connie) Wright, Debbie Boggs, and Vikki Leonard; six sisters, Joyce “Sue” Easter; Betty Kemp, Mary (John Sanker) Svoboda, Alice (Bob) Evans, Bertha (Bill) Wachsman and Pam Thompson Truman, one brother, Johnnie Thompson; eight (8) grandchildren; Aubrey Jackson, Scott (Brittany) Thompson, Jesse (Paige-girlfriend) Thompson, Cody Thompson, Kahla Barth, Merissa Thompson, Cora Thompson and Hallie Thompson; five(5) great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A celebration of Tommy’s life with his family and friends will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV, with a viewing for family (12:30-1:00p.m.), for the public (1:00pm-2:00p.m) a Funeral Service at 2 PM, with Pastor Chuck Gillispie officiating, followed by the burial at Danville Memorial Park, Danville, West Virginia.
Handley Funeral Home, 439 Phipps Avenue, Danville, WV 25053, is assisting the family.
