Thomas “Tom” Edwin Manns, 69, of Kenova, WV went to join the love of his life in heaven on Tuesday July 14th, 2020 at his home surrounded by his adoring “girls” and family.
He was the son of the late Lonnie and Flora Manns. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merle Jean Sloan Manns, mother-in-law, Madeline Sloan, brothers and sisters: John, Harrison, Sadie, Audrie, Lonzo, Alice, Dewy, Davey, Iris, Paul, and Bob.
He is survived by his daughters BethAnn (Tony) of Huntington and Brittany (Nathan) of Kenova; grandchildren Brooke (Troy), Lliam, Harrison, and Goldie; his brothers Ron, Oscar, and Donnie, brother-in-law Dennis (Nancy) Sloan and many other family members that had an everlasting impact on his life.
Tom enjoyed the simple things in life and his focus was always on his family. His ability to show humor in difficult moments and the ability to overcome any obstacle with grace and finesse will never be matched by another. Tom laid a foundation that will continue to stand strong for future generations in his family.
Tom was a train derailment specialist for 40 years. His work ethic and dedication were impeccable and set an example for others. The men he worked with were more than co-workers, they were family. His employer, Donahue Brothers, will always be special to us and be a part of our family.
Our leader, our protector, our hero. We can never thank you enough for all you have done for us. It has been an honor to live life in this world as one of your “girls.” Until we see you again, we will carry you with us in our hearts.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday July 17, 2020 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV with Joey Ferguson and Bennie Dean officiating. The burial will follow in the Slone-Triplett Cemetery, Pleasant View, WV. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
