Timmy Joe Hager, affectionately known as Barry, passed away on June 29, 2024, at the age of 64 in Peytona, WV (but he will always be 29 and three quarters). Born on January 24, 1960, in Madison, WV, Barry dedicated over 40 years of his life to working in the coal mines.
Barry was a man of many joys--hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, kayaking, and camping were among his favorite activities. He cherished the 46 years spent with his beloved wife Rebecca; he was her jack of all trades, but a master of none. He took immense pleasure in spoiling his grandchildren too. His family and friends knew him as a wonderful husband, father, and papaw, always ready with a smile and support.
Barry is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hager; sons, Timothy William (Rachel) of Nellis and Joshua Alan (Jaquatta) of Orgas; daughter, Tanya Louise (Stephen) of Peytona; grandchildren, Elyssa, Nichelle, TJ, Jason, Mason, Phebe, Jamar, and Adrian; siblings, Jimmy Hager (Terry) of Nellis, Kimmey Hager (Cheryl) of Peytona, Angela Wilkins (Dennis) of Nellis, and Jennifer Harper (Larry) of Peytona; mother-in-law, Anna "Snookie Smith of Ohio; sisters-in-law Tracy Smith of Ohio, and Krista Demko (Andy) of Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Fleetward Ray and Iris June Hager; his brothers, Nicky, Rickey, and Mickey (Buzzy) Hager; his sisters, Barbara Estep and Christine Young; his father-in-law, William Smith; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith.
Barry was looking forward to becoming a senior citizen so that he would never have to buy his hunting and fishing license ever again. Barry's life was full of love, laughter, and an enduring spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Barry's life will be held on July 20, 2024, at a later date. Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is assisting the family during this time.
