Velma Givens Cardwell

Velma Givens Cardwell of Bim, WV passed Friday, October 20, 2023 at the age of 101 years old.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Marshall on November 1988; her daughter Sue Prue in December of 2019; her mother and father Bill and Altha Givens of Dunbar, KY; sisters Thelma (Tootsie) Russell and Selma Lee; and brother William Givens.

She is survived by three grandsons, Charles, Franklin, and William Prue; and three great-grandsons, Harry, Franklin, and Josh Prue; one brother Roger Givens, Morgantown, KY; Maxine (Troy) Baxter of Indianapolis, Indiana; several nieces and nephews, and son-in-law Frank Prue.

Velma has been a member of Wharton Missionary Baptist Church since April 1952.  She graduated from Rockfield High School in 1941. She married and came to WV in 1941.  

Service will be 2:00 pm. Monday, October 23, 2023  at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. With Gary Hunt and Darrell Searls officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

A Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (CST) 4:00p.m. (EST) in Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, KY.
