Verlin Hayes Burgess

Verlin Hayes Burgess 79 of Wharton, WV passed away Nov. 12, 2016. He was born August 24, 1937 in Logan County, WV. Loving husband of Jacqueline Burgess after only one date, married three weeks later. A Marriage arranged by God into the loving Burgess family, July 19, 1969.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Eva Burgess, five brothers, Jesse Monroe Burgess, John Calvin Burgess, Chester Arlo Burgess, Frank Kimbel Burgess and William Boyd Burgess and two sisters Nancy Ellen Brumfield and Namoie Moss. He was a retired coal miner with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jacqueline Burgess; children, Jesse Monroe Burgess, Albert Lee Ball and Tammy Welch, 2 grandchildren, JoAnn Ball and Jeremy Ball who he loved and prayed for constantly, sister, Ernie (Chuck) Crossland of Cleveland, OH, brother, Rev. Earl (Francis) Burgess of Branchland, WV, many nieces and nephews. Special friends whom he loved like brothers Harold Price and Damon Green for all the help and encouragement.

Our Christian families thank you for your prayers and kind woods. God Blass you. Our appreciation to Dr. Lakhani and staff (our family doctor) who were family to us, and doctors and nurses at Thomas Memorial Hospital, nurses Valary, Theresa, Tammy and Wendy thank you.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2106 Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Rev. Phil Rowe and Scott Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
