Vernon Alton Shelton, 77, of Milton, WV passed away Sunday December 20, 2015.
He was born November 17, 1938 in West Hamlin, WV, a son of the late Lacy and Havana Shelton.
He worked as a welder for 35 years, 5 years with FMC in Charleston and 30 years with ACF Industries where he retired. He was baptized April 1, 1973 and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He sang with quartets in church for 42 years. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Manns and a brother Eliveo Shelton.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Miller Shelton; two loving sons, Kevin Lee Shelton of Fudge Creek Rd, Milton, WV and Tim Alton Shelton of Fudge Creek Rd, Huntington, WV; two granddaughters, Erica (Chris) LaPole and Trista Shelton; 7 great grandchildren Chase and Emma, Ariya, Nikyla, Neiya, Jaydan and Quincy; sisters, Jean Napier of Huntington, Lorella (Dan) Cooper of Yawkey, Joyce Baker and Rhonda Shelton of West Hamlin; brothers, Cebert (Imogene) Shelton of West Hamlin and Roger (Selma) Shelton of West Hamlin; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday December 23, 2015 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV. The burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV.
A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
