Vesford “Pete” Arnett Bias 85 of Hewett, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 6, 2014 after a long illness.
He was born April 3, 1929 and was preceded in death by his father Sebert Bias and mother Blanche Bias Hager, stepfather Jack Hager, sisters; Phyllis Chirico and Madeline Raines.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years of marriage, Ella Bias of Hewett, daughters; Judy (Ralph) Cook, Connie (Bobby) Ferrell, and Karen (Randy) Akers all of Hewett, son; Butch (Brenda) Bias of Wytheville, VA., sister; Jenny Toney of Chauncey, brother; Kenneth Hager of Hewett; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Pete retired with 43 years of service in underground coal mining and was a member of Local # 2935 of the United Mine Workers of America. Upon retiring he received the Joseph A Holmes Safety Certificate of Honor for working over 40 years without incurring a lost-time injury. He was also a longtime member of the Spencer Methodist Church of Hewett.
Pete will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he has touched throughout his life. Thanks to the caregivers, nurses and all those who supported the family during his time of illness.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
