Surrounded by his family, William "Bill" R. Farr, 71, of Beckley, formerly of Chapmanville, graciously entered his heavenly home on Feb. 2, 2015. Mr. Farr leaves his loving wife and soul mate of 43 years, Donna J. Hager Farr; his devoted sons, Tim (Chasity) Farr and Jim Farr of Chapmanville; and his daughter-by-heart, Teresa (Harold) Hager Clark and their sons, Caleb and Hunter of Charleston, SC. Mr. Farr is blessed to carry on his name two young grandsons, Thomas and William Farr; and to forever hold a piece of his heart, his granddaughter, Emily Farr. Left to tell stories and share his memory, his brother of 68 years, David (Nancy) Farr of Harper; a very special aunt whom he loved like a sister, Naomi (Todd) Pantels of Winchester, VA; and Azel Wood (Ruth) of Maple Meadow. Mr. Farr was adored by two wonderful sisters-in-law, Nancy (Mickey) Phillips of Pecks Mill, Janie (Edgar) Hannah of Alum Creek; and a brother-in-law, Lowell Hager and his companion, Phyllis Lowe of Chapmanville. He was cherished and favored dearly by his nieces, Amy (Gary) Altice of Colfax, NC, Sarah (Kevin) Stove of Daniels, Rachel (Calvin "Deke") Goodwin of Harper, Kaleigh Phillips of Charleston and Jody (Carl) Beatty of North Huntingdon, PA; and his nephews, David "Matt" (Leslie) Farr of Bluefield, VA and Jeff Honaker of Daniels. He will be forever loved by many great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Mr. Farr was blessed to share his love and laughter among many friends. Those he held dear to his heart were Greg Butcher, Dr. Randy Short, Warren Hanna, the late Dr. Mark Snyder and wife, Gail and Jim and Kathy Harvey. He was the beloved Godfather to their children, Travis, Lauren and William Snyder, Shane, Brett and Clint Harvey and Tanya Harvey Hunter. William "Bill" Farr was preceded in death by his loving parents, Marvin W. and Delma L. Rakes Farr; his baby sister, Sharon Lee Farr; and father and mother-in-law, James and Betty Hager.
Born September 15, 1943, the majority of his childhood was captured in the fields of Maple Meadow. It was there his love for horses and sports was born. His childhood memories and friendships will forever be preserved on the farm he once called home. He graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1961. After serving six years in the Army National Guard, he spent the better part of his adult years working in the coal industry and was a dedicated member of UMWA Local 7086. Bill made many good friends at his final career with Boone County Commission.
Mr. Farr took pride in his beliefs, family and friends. He was an animal lover and an avid historian. His laughter was contagious. One of his many passions was his love for football; boasting to the naysayers, "the Steelers still have the most Super Bowl rings - 6 to be exact." So dear husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, we will hear you, see you and embrace your memory every time we hear "Let's go Mountaineers!" To venerate his wishes, cremation and a celebration of his life with close friends and family will follow. "It was a season in our lives that spent its time and went; the way of all good things my friend of happy years well spent." - Grannie Farr.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sept. 13, 2015 at the Nutrition Center Lick Creek, Danville, WV. Please come and share memories with the family and friends.
