William F. "Bill" McCormick

May 13, 1944 — August 31, 2014

William F. (Bill) McCormick was born on May 13, 1944 and left this world peacefully on August 31, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a life full of friends and adventures that only a man of his nature could accumulate. He was preceded in death by his beloved father and mother Joe and Ruth McCormick.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Delores “Peachie”, of Ridgeview who kept him comfortable, secure and treasured for the past twenty three years of his life. His siblings, brothers Glen (Via) of Sanford, NC, Dan ( Rosemary) of Alum Creek and his sister Lisa (Tom) Dooley of Madison.

Also surviving him are his three children Billy (Jenny), John McCormick of Nellis and Helen (Scott) of Ridgeview; his stepchildren Danny (Patty) of Ashford, Debbie (Rick) of Texas, Lou (Scott) of Ohio and Pat (Danny) of Ashford; 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graduating from Sherman High School, Bill was an outdoorsman who collected and traded as many cars and trucks as he did friends. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy as an MP in Newfoundland and retired from the Boone County coal mines as one of the strongest, kindest men we knew. His life was filled with chapter after chapter of escapades in fishing, traveling, restoring vehicles and best of all, sharing the stories of all these many miles of his run in this world. His quick mischievous smile, kind spirit and twinkling blue eyes will be missed the most by his family and friends.

Bill had a special passion for fishing and has requested after his cremation that his life be celebrated on the river banks of the Little Coal River and most importantly for his family and friends to “Trust in the Lord.” He will see us again one day.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Arrangements by Handley Funeral Home in Danville.
